“Jenny Was a Friend of Mine” by The Killers

Lyrics

We took a walk that night, but it wasn’t the same

We had a fight on the promenade out in the rain

She said she loved me, but she had somewhere to go

She couldn’t scream while I held I close I swore I’d never let her go

Tell me what you wanna know

Oh come on, oh come on, oh come on

There ain’t no motive for this crime

Jenny was a friend of mine

So come on, oh come on, oh come on

I know my rights, I’ve been here all day and it’s time

For me to go, so let me know if it’s alright

I just can’t take this, I swear I told you the truth

She couldn’t scream while I held I close I swore I’d never let her go

Tell me what you wanna know

Oh come on, oh come on, oh come on

And then you whisper in my ear I know what you’re doing here

So come on, oh come on, oh come on

There ain’t no motive for this crime

Jenny was a friend of mine

Oh come on, oh come on, oh come on

Quick Song Recap

This song is about the police questioning a guy about the murder of a girl named Jenny.  It’s actually part of a trilogy of murder songs by The Killers.  Part One being “Leave the Bourbon on the Shelf” followed by Part Two – “Midnight Show” and then Part Three is “Jenny was a Friend of Mine”.

Movie Synopsis

Detective Bonds (Any Baldwin but Alec) shows up at a suspected killer’s doorstep (Skeet Ulrich) to piece together the murder of a female friend (Jodie Sweetin), but can Detective Bonds piece together the details in time?

Added Drama

If we keep the title of the song as the title of the movie, then the girl’s name is Jenny and welp, she dies. Skeet Ulrich plays an ex-boyfriend who can’t have Jenny back and can’t stand to see her with her new boyfriend so he takes matters into his own hands by killing her.  The movie would flash backwards to Skeet breaking up with her and then stalking her and then kid napping her and then killing her and he’d go off to prison and not get away with it.

Possible Titles:

  1. Jenny Was a Friend of Mine
  2. If I Can’t Have You…
  3. But I Loved Her
  4. Friend of Mine
  5. She Was a Friend of Mine

“Escape (The Pina Colada Song)” by Rupert Holmes

Lyrics

I was tired of my lady

We’d been together too long

Like a worn-out recording

Of a favorite song

So while she lay there sleeping

I read the paper in bed

And in the personal columns

There was this letter I read

“If you like Pina Coladas

And getting caught in the rain

If you’re not into yoga

If you have half a brain

If you’d like making love at midnight

In the dunes on the Cape

Then I’m the love that you’ve looked for

Write to me and escape.”

I didn’t think about my lady

I know that sounds kind of mean

But me and my old lady

Have fallen into the same old dull routine

So I wrote to the paper

Took out a personal ad

And though I’m nobody’s poet

I thought it wasn’t half bad

“Yes I like Pina Coladas

And getting caught in the rain

I’m not much into health food

I am into champagne

I’ve got to meet you by tomorrow noon

And cut through all this red-tape

At a bar called O’Malley’s

Where we’ll plan our escape.”

So I waited with high hopes

And she walked in the place

I knew her smile in an instant

I knew the curve of her face

It was my own lovely lady

And she said, “Oh it’s you.”

Then we laughed for a moment

And I said, “I never knew.”

That you like Pina Coladas

Getting caught in the rain

And the feel of the ocean

And the taste of champagne

If you’d like making love at midnight

In the dunes of the Cape

You’re the lady I’ve looked for

Come with me and escape

repeat chorus twice and fade out

Quick Song Recap

A couple who has been together for awhile gets a little bored.  The husband reads the personal ads and sees one he likes.  He then sets up to meet the person in the ad and it turns out to be his wife.  No one is murdered or divorced in the song, which personally I don’t find realistic.

Movie Synopsis

After 30 years of marriage, Debra (Patricia Heaton) thinks the marriage is a little stale so she puts out a personal ad in the papers, but she may be a little surprised to find out who answers it. (Also stars Paul Reiser)

Added Drama

The song has a happy feeling/ending to it, so we’ll make the movie the same way, although a murder or divorce could be just as much fun. The main woman, Debra, decides her marriage is stale and she isn’t getting enough attention from her hubby Paul Reiser, so she puts out a personal ad as described by the song.  It’s not easy for her to put out the personal ad but she finally does it and it’s there for about a week but no one inquires about it.  Paul Reiser is in the same boat as Debra though and decides the marriage is stale so after days of debate he looks at the personal ads and sees Debra’s (although he doesn’t know it’s hers of course) and then he finally calls about it and they set up a meeting.  They then meet and laugh it off and it sparks a new fire into their marriage.

Possible Titles

“Inside Out” by Britney Spears

Lyrics

[Britney Spears – Verse 1]

Said you’re gonna be here in a minute Sitting in the mirror getting pretty Gotta look my best if we’re gonna break up Gotta look my best if we’re gonna break up

I can hear you knocking at the front door And I know exactly what u came for

Trying to say goodbye but it’s hot and heavy Trying to say goodbye but it’s hot and heavy

You touch me and it’s breaking me down I’m telling you let’s just give it up and get down

[Chorus]

So come on won’t you give me something to remember? Baby shut your mouth and turn me inside out Even though we couldn’t last forever, baby You know what I want right now

Hit me one more time it’s so amazing How you shook my world and flipped it upside down You’re the only one who ever drove me crazy ’cause you know me inside out

[Britney Spears – Verse 2]

I know that we probably shouldn’t do this Wake up in the morning feeling stupid Said that we were done but you’re all up on me Said that we were done but you’re all up on me

Tell me how we got in this position Guess I gotta get you out my system Trying to let you go but it’s not that easy Trying to let you go but it’s not that easy

You touch me and it’s breaking me down I’m telling you let’s just give it up and get down

[Chorus]

So come on won’t you give me something to remember? Baby shut your mouth and turn me inside out Even though we couldn’t last forever, baby You know what I want right now Hit me one more time it’s so amazing How you shook my world and flipped it upside down You’re the only one who ever drove me crazy ’cause you know me inside out

Quick Song Recap

Britney is talking about how they’re about to break up, but before he goes she wants something to remember.  Much like breaking up with someone and then continuing to “still be friends” – we’ve all been there before.

Movie Synopsis

Heather (Elisha Cuthbert) and her boyfriend Bradon (David Ross) break it off but decide to remain friends but Heather soon realizes she has to have Bradon all to herself.

Added Drama

Let’s add the crazy psycho woman aspect to this one.  Heather tells herself she’s fine just being “friends with benefits” after her and Bradon break up, but she realizes she needs him all to herself, but after he doesn’t want to put the girlfriend/boyfriend title on things, she gets violent and obsessive.

Possible Titles

  1. You Drive Me Crazy
  2. If I Can’t Have You… (I know I used this one up top, but it needs to be used)
  3. Something to Remember

“Here He Comes Again” by K-Ci & JoJo

Lyrics

Tell me he didn’t lie to you Tell me there’s no way that he set you up Tell me there’s no way that you’ll let him use you You’d think by now you’d know him by all his signs So how could you be a fool?

– Girl, here he comes again Tellin’ lies to you Girl, here he comes again To break your heart You’ll find out, you know he’s no good When will you learn He’s nothing but a user

It’s not my place to say what to do, no But I just can’t stand when love abuses you He’s never gonna change, no no no He enjoys seeing you in so much pain So little girl, get up off your face And hold your head up high And tell him that you are through

Girl, I know you want me I see the look in your eyes All you have to do is ask me Don’t think you’re wasting your time I am yours if you want me All you have to do is tell me Do you want me? Do you want him? Look behind your back, he’s comin’ again *Lyrics from lyricsg.com
